April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. And at Keenan, every month is Child Abuse Prevention Month. As manager of the Regional Liability Excess Fund (ReLiEF), we have dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to developing resources that can make a difference in ending child abuse and promoting all children's well-being.
Child Abuse Prevention Month was established in 1983 by a presidential proclamation. Since then, April has been a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse. Increasing awareness of prevention resources is fundamental to solving the problem of child abuse.
This year, ReLiEF and Keenan have partnered with the California School Boards Association (CSBA) to expand our promotion of this important cause, as highlighted on our Child Abuse Prevention Resource Site. Our campaign includes:
- Educational Grant Contest where a district will receive a $1,000 they can use toward educational spending.
- Interactive Child Abuse Prevention Month Platform where you can test your knowledge, explore resources, and have the opportunity to win one of ten $100 DonorsChoosegift cards.
- Promotional Kit Download to help your district promote the month with flyers, Zoom backgrounds, and much more.
- Access to our Microlearning Series. Keenan and SAFER developed a series of 3-4 minute videos that will educate you and your staff to recognize risky behaviors in sexual abusers and create best practices boundaries that intercede with those behaviors.
Participating in Child Abuse Prevention Month is a best practice for keeping our children safer in our schools and neighborhoods and raising awareness of an ongoing problem that continues to create tragic impacts. Helping to build stronger, more resilient families fosters healthy child and youth development.
